Trac has a nice polished interface and supports both inline and
side-by-side diffs. e.g.
http://projects.edgewall.com/trac/changeset/2191
(choose diff-type in the drop-down box)

We've been very happy with it. (You can configure Trac so only specific
parts are enabled like Timeline and Source Browser, while the Ticket and
Roadmap interfaces are not shown).
