That's fair enough - the book is reasonably intensive enough as it is,
without detailing all the possible little differences.

Ok, here's a rough guide to my steps from nothing to installation.

I went to subversion.tigris.org, then downloads, then Win32, then
selected the precompiled setup version.

Once this finished downloading, I launched the file
(svn-1.0.2-setup.exe). During installation I noted down the Apache
information in the setup...

and then continued the install.

Looking at the ReadMe.txt, I followed the "Quickstart Guide" steps to
set up my repository.

Nowhere at this point has it been mentioned which particular version
of Apache 2 is required. There's notes for looking at other files ...

but these files don't exist anywhere in my subversion installation
directory.

I didn't feel the need to download the source files, as I don't have a
C/C++/whatever compiler on this machine, so there wouldn't be much
point in me doing so. Any install information I would go looking for
in the install.txt or in the big Subversion book, and failing that,
mailing lists and the internet.

(As a side note, I'm pretty sure I would have remembered seeing
something about the Apache version number, as I'm a bit paranoid about
that, ever since it updated (and the magic number was changed) and
then JRun refused to work.)

Robin.
