The book will never cover compilation details or dependencies like this,
because they change every few months. And binary packages exist for
every OS out there.

It's assumed that if you're building Subversion, you'll read the INSTALL
file and see what all the dependencies are. It's also assumed that if
somebody makes a binary package, the package will automatically check
that the correct versions of dependencies are already installed.

So... what path did you take? How is it that you ended up trying to
install mod_dav_svn into an apache 2.0.44 server?
