Working copies which are shared between different OS can get you into
all sorts of trouble. Did you google for "working copy smb share"?

If Icon overlays don't show up, it is possible that another previously
installed app has used up the icon overlay slots provided by windows. Do
you have anything else installed in the VM, like Dropbox, TortoiseCVS,
Overlays for junction points, ... ?
