Apologies for asking in the wrong place, but having looked through the FAQ,
the "FAQ - Ask Question" page looked to me like an invitation to ask a
question - maybe something should be added to that page saying that the "Ask
Question" page is not for asking questions.

I did look in the SVN Red Book before, but it didn't tell me anything about
the problem I was experiencing.

I have now resolved this. When the project was migrated from CVS to
Subversion the svn:keywords was set to "revision" rather "Revision" -
apparently, although the other short forms are case-insenstive (i.e. date,
author, rev) - Revision is not. Details here....
