But yes, you're right - at the moment you can't escape if the focus is in
the Scintilla control (broken Scintilla, popular complaint about it), but
you can if the focus is elsewhere (standard windows behaviour).

Personally, I would always argue for sticking to the standard behaviour -
so I think it's a misfeature of TMerge to shut with escape (though it's
benign), and a bug in the commit-log dialog that it doesn't shut with
escape (in some focus conditions).
