Well, in this case, since Visual Source Safe Merge window closes on
escape and that is what I'm (unfortunately) used to, I definitely
like the close-on-esc.  (I consider the diff / merge window a pop-up
dialog of the update / merge / commit dialog myself, so close-on-esc
works perfectly for me.)
In general, I don't accidentally hit the esc key.  Personally,
I'm not worried about the rare chance that I might do so.
I do, however, as Will previously wrote, start a commit, start
diffing my changes, and realize that something is wrong and
needs to be fixed, and so I hit esc on purpose.
Saving the log text in the edit box would be a wonderful
feature.
