I am a fairly new svn user, but I have discovered that a good ritual
is to do an "svn update" even when there is nothing you should need
from the server (because you are the source of the changes!), it seems
to help clear svn's internal book keeping.

Maybe doing that between the delete and add would have helped, and it
still might help.
