I've never had a need to put a bundle in the source control system.

I've heard a few suggestions though, like what you mentioned, tar-ing
the bundle and checking that in. But there is no way to get a script
to automatically deal with the tar files as part of the update/
checkin process.

There is talk of eliminating the client side "pristine copies", I'm
not sure what the implementation would be like, but if the .svn
folders could be relocated outside of the main working directory tree
then that might be enough to make bundles work a little better.
