I'll just add here that, should there be anyone who, like me, thinks this would be a really useful thing to have in SVN, you can always go and add votes and comments to the bug at

Currently, this bug is a P5 and is unscheduled, which, if my experience back at Apple is anything to go by, means this baby isn't going to be implemented anytime soon. Votes might help move it up a bit.
