To get the exact version of a Red Hat / Fedora distribution :
        cat /etc/redhat-release

If at all possible, why not upgrade to a recent version of Fedora?
Fedora 1 is not maintained anymore and Fedora 4 ships with a up-to-date
version of Subversion.

I'm not aware of any issue with that compiler. You could apply the
latest patches available though, to be on the safe side. I'm not sure
this will help with the issue at hand though.

I know Subversion needs a recent version of apr, but I can't remember
which. Are you using the version of apr bundled with Fedora? If so,
which version of apr is it?
        rpm -q apr
Are there many versions of apr on this system?
