Sharing a project between CVS and subversion

I have a course this semester whose professor uses the team info from
the course CVS repository in her research -- she is studying the
development process, and her tools only work with CVS at the moment
(although she says that she personally uses svn). I already have a
skeleton of the project in my subversion repository and I would like
to keep it there for my own archival purposes. However, I have to do
the bulk of the work in CVS. Has anyone else here ever kept one
working copy in VC for both? I tried setting ignore properties for
the two of them, but I'm not totally clear on how to do recursive
ignores (So that I can ignore CVS and .svn).

Thanks in advance.
