Yeah, there are certainly cases where it's helpful (which is why I made
the exception for vendor branches); I was referring mainly to cases
where it's something internally-developed.

Although even then it's sometimes convenient to version-control an image
of the resulting install CD or something like that if you will be
pushing it to multiple locations. It just depends on what you're trying
to accomplish.
