Hot_backup.py unable to backup large ( 8GB ) repository

I'm seeing "svn : Can't copy /repos/db/strings to
/backups/repos-10/db/strings.tmp : File too large " with a 7595229184
strings file when using hot_backup.py. Smaller repositories backed-up ok. Is
there a limitation with the repository size for hot_backups ? What is the
best process to backup these large repositories ?
