True, I'm running SVN a Linux box with Apache.
But... Just created a local one via TortoiseSVN, imported one of our projects, copied/pasted the db\strings file...
No problem. db\strings file size is about 5M.
The reason I'm assuming you've got a hardware problem is that CRC errors are rather low-level.
Did XP register any events about that error?
Did you try and re-import a dump/export of your repository into a freshly created one,
and copy/paste the newly created strings file?

I don't believe there is anything wrong with the hard disk. My repository
seems to be "operating" just fine - I can check out a working copy without a
problem. No problem committing changes to the repository. I take it that
you can copy and paste the strings file without a problem (assuming you have
a local repository)?

Mmmmmm... CRC error? Sounds bad. Something wrong with your harddisk
perhaps?

Subject: Cannot back up "strings" file (revisited)
Hi,
I had posted a question previously about our network backup system failing
to back up the "strings" file in my local repository (located in
C:\SVNrepos\db\strings on my Windows XP PC), but none of the responses ended
up helping. At first, I thought it might be related to TortoiseSVN, but I
still have the same problem after removing TortoiseSVN and re-booting.
So here's another symptom: if I simply try to copy the "strings" file from
the repository and paste the file somewhere else (outside of the
repository), then the Windows XP operating system returns the following
error message:
"Cannot copy strings: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)"
I have a feeling this same error is causing the network back up software to
get hung up whenever it tries to back up my hard drive. This is a serious
problem for me. Any ideas?
Thanks,
John
