It serves exactly the same purpose as drag-n-drop into a commit dialog for sparse files with a common root, it's just a bit easier to accomplish with the 'Queue' mechanism.

If you haven't yet found a use for the drag-n-drop functionality, then I would see how you might not imagine its usefulness.

I find it very useful when merging changes to multiple release branches, while allowing existing work to continue.
