Can tortoise be made to not autostart?

Can tortoise be made to not autostart?
I've seen the hacks for the registry.. That really isn't a suitable solution.
I just want to know if I can turn tortoise on/off manually without uninstalling it?
I'd rather start and run it manually rather than having it autostart.
