If you often edit log messages you should consider deactivating the log
cache:
Settings dialog->log cache->Enable log caching (uncheck)

But Ctrl+F5 in the log dialog should refresh the log cache, but only if
the log is shown from HEAD, i.e. showing the very last revision at the top.

You can also clear the log cache from the log dialog (under "saved data")
