The commit dialog finally gave the following response:

Commit failed (details follow):
Can't read from connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the
 remote host.
116 Bytes transferred in 120 minute(s) and 13 second(s).

At the time I at which I discovered this response, the network was down, and I don't know if it came back up during those two hours as I wasn't monitoring the network.
