----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have tried TortoiseSVN 1.7.6, 1.7.2, and 1.7.1 with (PuTTY) Pageant 0.61
and 0.62. All of those versions required me enter my credentials dozens of
times every time I opened a repo browser. I even tried Pageant 0.60 with
TortoiseSVN 1.7.6, then additionally tried replacing TortoisePlink with the
one from TortoiseSVN 1.6.16-- all to no avail.

However, when I install a complete TortoiseSVN 1.6.16 and use Pageant 0.60,
it works fine (as long as I preface the repo URL with my userid@). I have
compared TortSVN 1.7 vs 1.6 on two different laptops with the same results.

THERE ARE A LOT OF SVN EXTERNALS REFERENCED IN OUR BRANCH. They give us
problems even when I have Pageant and TortSVN working relatively
harmoniously. There were many times when it seemed that credential requests
were associated with those SVN "Externals", even when I was using svn
command lines (like "svn up" or "svn co") on a Linux box via PuTTY itself.
The svn command would go fine until it came to an "external" directory, then
demand userid and/or password. Our network/repo admin was able to fix the
problem when it cropped up on the Linux server. He has mentioned that they
find SVN Externals to be problematic.

Even now with the relatively successful TortoiseSVN 1.6.16 and Pageant 0.60
combo, when I use TortoiseSVN to checkout a complete branch from a
high-level directory onto my local laptop's hard drive, I get a dozen
demands for my userid. If I Cancel those TortoisePlink dialogs, the log
contains errors like:
External failed C:\Code\branches\source\keyExchange\include
It does give me enough code to usefully edit and browse locally on my
laptop, although I do not attempt to build the code under Windows.

The reason I say these revisions are relatively pain-free, is that at least
with TortoiseSVN 1.6.16 and Pageant 0.60, I can open a Repo Browser without
any demands for credentials, and can do other tasks like generate patches,
view logs, etc., without getting bothered about credentials. Unfortunately,
those tasks are hopeless with TortoiseSVN 1.7.x

I hope this helps. Thanks so much! Everyone I know who uses TSVN is
impressed by it.
