TortoiseSVN not working

I thought I posted this to the forum but it hasn't shown up so I'm
sending this email. I'm having trouble getting TortoiseSVN to work and I
need help. I am on Windows XP/SP2 and I installed the latest 32-bit
version of TortoiseSVN. I could see the 2 menu options when I
right-clicked on a folder in Explorer: one to check-out, the other a
menu of other TortoiseSVN options. But neither works: they
just sit there and do nothing. I have re-installed multiple times,
thinking something might be getting corrupted, but I'm still not getting
anything beyond the 2 menu items. I'm hoping someone might have an idea
about what the problem could be.
