Found my solution

Just for a record on here in case anyone else comes across a similar problem, my problem actually was addressed in the subversion FAQ but I was not explaining it properly. Here is the item:

Doing the prescribed trick with authorized_keys enabled me to use the non-default install of svn on the server.

Yay! That headache is over with.
