1.6 Clean up crashes

Just upgraded to on XP Professional, regular NTFS partition. I have merged, committed, checked out a new WC, without a problem. But wherever and whenever I do Tortoise Clean up, after what appears to be the usual processing, the same thing happens:

Faulting application tortoiseproc.exe, version, faulting module msvcr90.dll, version 9.0.30729.1, fault address 0x0006c955.

The address seems like an extremely short but genuinely invoked function

   and dword ptr ds:[785BD7A0h],0

Command line "svn cleanup" (version 1.6.0-SlikSvn-tag-1.6.0_at_36687-WIN32) has nothing to say. Tracing with filemon suggests that tortoiseproc has finished visiting the working copy and crashes when it wants to close off.
