Yes this is really useful, thank you very much for the fast help.
The only problem was that it is a bit a hidden feature.
Maybe it would make sense to change the default ? (activate by
default)
are only few people sorting via extensions ?

at the moment the add file dialog presents the affected files/
directories as a _flat_ list.
it is usefull and if I select/deselect a directory all files/
directories below a also selected/deselected so the behaviour is
correct and usable.

The feedback from several users here is that they would like to have a
_tree_ with nodes instead of a flat _list_. The tree should have
checkboxes at the nodes to perform the selection etc. I think this
could make sense.
