We had to make a decision here: the space is limited (not everyone has a
24'' wide screen monitor or two monitors), so we only show what we think
is important. The file extension column is not.
But you can enable the column if you like :)
And I don't think that feature is 'hidden' - the explorer has the very
same feature (right-click on the column headers to select more columns).

That can be done with shift-click on a folder. That will affect the
check state not just of that folder but all items below that folder.
