difference between TSVN and SVN on a server

Hi there,

  I have two options:1) Install Tortoise SVN as stand-alone and work
                             2) Have SVN server installed and then use Tortoiose SVN as a client

  Can anyone please tell me what are the advantages/disadvantages in both cases?
