Two comments:

1) I have been trying to convert the gang at work to Subversion, and
as I demonstrated TortoiseSVN to someone, the icons didn't update
properly, in the same manner as described in this thread. At first I
thought it was because I was using a nightly build of the 1.4.0
branch before 1.4.0 was released, but the problem persisted when I
updated to the released 1.4.0.

2) I often use my temp directory (conveniently called c:\temp) as
just that -- a temporary location to dump stuff that I'm either just
playing with, or demonstrating, or whatever. I suppose I could call
the folder "testing" or "crap" or some such, but "temp" is as good a
name as anything. The point is that I'll check something out, do a
quick test, then when I'm done, I'll delete the temp working copy.

3) The icon update problem I'm seeing happens in any directory, both
on the local disk and on network shares, and in directories not
called temp.
