Maybe it's worth to mention that I run Windows XP Prof SP2 with the
classic display theme.

I found a simpler way to reproduce the glitch:
1) Select a folder in the tree view.
2) Right-click in the list view.
3) Select another folder in the tree view. Here you go...
I attach three pictures with these steps.

Note that the attribute 'always show selection' is set for the tree
view.
Thus, when the tree view looses focus, the selection becomes gray.
But when you right-click list view, and the menu pops up, the selection
in the tree view becomes navy again.
Now, if you select another item in the tree view, the first one will
remain navy.
