On Vista it'll use the background io priority which should help.
There's not such facility on xp. But being idle will help if another
process takes 100% cpu. :)
I could implement a IO throttling (at least on xp). That'd be nice.
Maybe if I have time but that is not an issue to me.
I'm in the process of finishing a patch that bans crawling when
running on batteries.
BTW, my laptop has big wc's too and it doesn't feel _that_ slow. I
feel more the pain when building actually.
