Hello all.
This bug has been biting me on and for the last six months so thought it was
about time I reported it. (More accurately, I've only just worked out why
it is happening.)
When viewing the TSVN Windows Explorer context-menu on a modified file with
the mouse, I get the 'Diff' option. When I try to do the same with the
keyboard I get 'Diff with URL' instead. As I actually want to use Diff 99%
of the time this can be a bit annoying. I've worked out that this is caused
by the way I invoke the context menu with Shift-F10 (a universal Windows
shortcut) and TSVN is detecting the fact that shift is held down as a cue to
change the menu. This can be confirmed by using the context-menu key beside
the right Windows key on the keyboard instead -- indeed that is my
workaround.
Now, I've tried to find a precedent on how this should work and all I've
come up with is Excel files. If you view the context menu for these it
shows the 'Open' option but with shift it adds an 'Open as Readonly' option.
With the keyboard I still get the readonly option but the key difference is
nothing is removed from the menu -- the 'Open' option is still there too.
So I think TSVN should work this way too - shift should add the 'Diff with
URL' beneath the existing 'Diff' option when shift is depressed, not replace
it. That way, from the keyboard, I (as a representive of everyone who uses
Shift-F10) can always do what I need to do and everyone is happy.
I appreciate most people could simply use the dedicated context-menu key on
the keyboard but many of us have become accustomed to the original shortcuts
before Windows keyboards came along and there are still a fair number of
keyboards that do not have these keys (and many users who do not use them
when the keyboards do).
Many thanks,
Paul.
