Still bound to happen?

Something like "prefer=1.2.3.4000" in version.txt, which could result
in a dialog saying something like "You're running a different version
than the recommended 1.2.3.4000. Would you like to switch to the
recommended version of TSVN?" would be sweet.

Anyway, the version.txt format itself needs some thought.

Starting with the next TSVN release, version.txt is going to be used
in the wild.
If more features are to be added later on, changing the format of the
file is going to get more and more difficult, since old clients will
likely barf on those changes.
It might make sense to switch version.txt to a standard format that is
easily parseable, extendable and can contain i18n text strings (eg.
XML) now.....
