I don't think TortoiseSVN would have to pay a single penny for any
testing tool if the vendor is approached properly. Simply approach a
vendor of a testing product and see if they're willing to donate a
single license in exchange for mentioning their donation on the
TortoiseSVN website for 12 months.
Consider the following fictional scenario (I'm not encouraging you to
say this, I'm just poking fun and illustrating how this is totally a
win-win for both TortoiseSVN and testing tool vendor):
"Oh? No free license for us to test our highly popular version control
tool? Thats a shame. I guess we'll have to use vendor X's product
instead and display their product logo on our site to thank them for
their donation. This means a lot of goodwill and publicity would go to
your primary competitor at virtually no cost to them. After all, our
users are developers who could benefit from using testing tools and
we'll mention that you turned us down if they complain about us not
choosing your testing tool."
I think a 30-day trial version of TestComplete is available for
download--appears to be a very easy-to-use tool. Try it out and
approach the vendor if you like the tool. If not, try out another tool
until you find one that saves you a tremendous amount of testing time.
And if simplicity is what you want, you can probably find a simple,
generic mouse/keyboard recording tool instead of going after a
full-featured testing tool.
