I tried the 1.2.2 isntaller but it made no difference - afterwards (and after
the normal reboot) the about screen still showed 1.2.3. If I asked it to go and
check for a newer version it said there wasn't any. [I discovered the commmand
line, which is how I got to the about screen.]
I'd just taken a normal Ghost backup of my system, so reasoned that a serious
catastropy wouldn't be the end of the world and decided to give it whirl -
normally I wouldn't dream of not using the installer. In this case, I also
reasoned that trying this would show if some registry setting had been changed
(by the 1.2.3 installer) and, hence, help to point at the source of my problem.

There seems to be some miscommunication here: I /always/ use the installer AND
do the reboot (I don't even elect to put it off, the installer does the reboot
there and then). The ONE time I haven't is as noted above to try and figure out
what's up. I assure you that not doing a reboot is /not/ the cause of this
problem.
