OK, that sounds reasonable.

Yep. That sounds reasonable too. As Peter McNab says, most editors don't
let you save a read-only file but often they won't warn you until you do
try to save, which is too late. So I agree, this overlay is more
important that I thought. But the icon should be different, not a lock
symbol.
