I have never, ever seen a program maintain the version number of the
library it's linked against. Every program I know has its own version
number, and I haven't seen people being confused about that.
Ok, there was 'Office XP' (which btw confused people because many
thought that this would only run on WinXP and not on Win2k).

That's why we have this:

(third link on our download page btw).

Also, our installers are called (example):
TortoiseSVN-1.1.4-UNICODE_svn-1.1.4.msi

So we clearly state even in the filename of the installer against
which Subversion version we linked against.
