I would expect the method to work the the selected "item" (ie. the
document of the active editor or the project when that is selected and
the navigator is open).

If nothing is selected (for example, the console view is active), I'd
expect the commit to work in the project of the document which is
visible on the current editor.

But these things will probably sort themselves out when we can invoke
the synchronize view with a hotkey. Usually, people won't commit files
individually but create commit units in the sync view (after all, what's
the point in committing a file when you can compile it because all the
other necessary changes are missing?).
