IMO it's a flaw in CVS terminology that "checkout" doubles up as "update".

And the checkout dialog does say "The resource 'XX' already exists in the
workspace and will be deleted. Proceed?"

Perhaps some reading of the svn book would help prevent some migration
issues.

That's really dangerous behaviour, especially when you consider that CVS
migrators will be used to sometimes using "cvs co" to update an existing
working directory.

It's already cost one dev on my team a working directory with
uncommitted changes. :/
