How does this play out with notes/sparse-directories.txt?

This is a "merge-tracking" item, because Merge Tracking caused a
regression here. This should be basically trivial for anyone
comfortable with a debugger to fix (it's already marked "bite-sized").

This one has a small, concise patch sitting in it. Easy pickings!

This is a potential DOS that should be fixed (likely using the
suggested approach in the issue).
