As put in the design doc, /usr/bin/patch would be invoked, and this
does imply "patch" binary to be a prereq. I meant to go this way
initially (GSoC timeframe) and then eventually look for importing GNU
'patch' into a library that would be shipped along with subversion and
thus remove the prereq.
