Aheads-up: Google Summer of Code will be starting up soonly.
Unlike previous years, we're soliciting student proposals much earlier
on, and accepting them very early too. The idea is to give the
students a couple of months of "lead up" time to get informally
involved with the project and community before they actually start
writing code during summer break.
In particular, we're going to start accepting student proposals in
early March. By early April, the final students will be chosen (so
the students know long ahead of time whether or not they need to look
for another summer job!), and coding doesn't "officially" begin till
the end of May. So that means that whatever students we accept will
have nearly two months to acclimate themselves to our community before
they really dig in. We're hoping this makes things much easier for
the students. :-)
in any case, that means we need to get our 'tasks' page in order ASAP,
and figure out what we want students working on! That page has
definitely gone stale.
I might suggest that we come up with some student tasks to help us get
to svn 1.5 quicker... perhaps there are some biggish things that can
be done related to merge-tracking and partial checkouts? We're
talking free interns here, so let's make use of them!
