I think this is just r13222/13223/13232. Currently nominated for 1.1.4
with two votes. (Although it's a big change, and if we're close to
1.2.0 anyway, I'm not sure if it would really be so bad to let 1.1.x
struggle on without it.)

I believe the fix still needs to be backported to BDB.
