FWIW, I know I have seen a discussion on this list that precisely cited
editors as a reason to use two spaces consistently. I believe Emacs
supports cursor movement shortcuts for word, sentence, and paragraph (if
I'm not mistaken).

Not speaking for the project of course, but my personal preference is
consistency over possibly arbitrary external grammer rules. Of course,
that's no answer at all, since you could argue that you are consistent
in the German translation with normal German rules. Someone else could
argue that the two-space-between-sentences is a project default and
overrides cultural differences.

Just choose one, document it, and stick with it. ;)
