That would be a solution for subversion itself. But imagine a project
which doesn't have an IRC channel, and doesn't have (or want)
an email hook, just RSS. With your suggestion they would need
to set up an email hook, open an IRC channel and then use
that output to generate an RSS feed.
I'm sorry if I made you think I wanted subversion to use my
hook - it's just there for those who want it. I sent the link
to it 'cause I thought someone wanted to use it.
