I've used ViewCVS before, so of course I know it's possible.

You know, I didn't acknowledge because you missed the point. I requested
feedback on an idea about the client API (to help svn-client users and
GUI-builders) - not some server-side tricks.

Do you really mean that? It seems pretty core to me. OK, so I can live
without it, but the lack of this functionality implies a burden on the
administrator. Isn't that a compelling reason? You know, some real-world
admins handles a lot of repositories and a bunch of users. I'm one of
those...
