Ok, what's wrong with this compile attempt?

Ok. I've finally decided to take the plunge and create the most up to date rpm
packages for my Mandrake 9.1 Bamboo.

So I bootstrapped.

Downloaded the trunk.

Ran autogen.sh, found the packages subdirectory, looked in Mandrake9.1 and tried
"make"

And all of a sudden, things failed. Because apparently I was missing some paths.

Go over to Redhat8.0 and type "make" and redhat makes all sorts of things and just
works.

Something in the make for Mandrake is missing.

So then I figure out that I have to create .rpmmacros and .rpmrc (ugh).

Create them AND created directories - why they can't be specified in the Makefile,
I'm not sure, or at least the directory creation and the file creation in the
Makefile, dunno.

So I then try "make" again, and try as I might, I get one after another package
needing to be installed, that I never realized I needed.

Finally the whole thing fails because the Mandarke package can't create authz_svn or
something along those lines and mod_dav_svn. Why not? I have no idea what package is
missing at this point.

Any pointers on compiling Subversion on Mandrake would be nice.

Especially a complete listing of what files or at distro-independent package names.
:)

Secondly, will the "requires perl(strict)" thing ever go away? I HAVE perl
installed. A full 5.8.0.

Anyway. Any clarity on the matter would be appreciated.

Heck if I can get enough information, I might even volunteer (gasp) to compile the
new versions of Mandrake9.1 packages on an ad hoc basis.

Anyway. Someone let me know what's going on. Thanks.

Shamim

P.S. Mandrake 9.1 (gcc3.2), AMDK6III-450, 320MB PC133 SDRAM, AsusP5AB mobo. If that
helps any.
