I think that you're better off with a pre-release of Subversion than
the current release of CVS if you don't mind following the Subversion
announcements list and upgrading your Subversion installation every
month or six weeks until it hits 1.0 (and this includes a possible
repository dump/reload or 2).

In spite of it's pre-1.0 status and a few mildly annoying bugs,
Subversion is already a great improvement on CVS. Once Subversion
hit's 1.0, it will be many times better than CVS. Inertia dictates
that it will be easier to start with Subversion than to switch to it
later.

If you care about your developers and want to make their lives easier,
use Subversion.

If you don't like them, go with CVS.
