Let me follow up to myself.

Remember that our dumpfile parser is already abstracted. That means
that the standalone 'filter' program simply needs to implement a new
vtable for the dumpfile parser -- one which filters appropriately, and
outputs the same dumpfile with changed or missing information. It's
much like running 'sed' on a stream.

Very elegant.
