I don't want to put more fuel on the fire, but...

CVS doesn't pay attention to ".cvsignore" if you type
cvs add *

I must say that I don't agree with that behavior.
I personally think an ignore list should be exactly that: A list of files to completely ignore.

HOWEVER, I do think there SHOULD be a message printed that says something like, "Hey I ignored
foo.txt because 'svn:ignore' told me to. Use '--force' to add it anyway."
This message will help 'Joe User' who might otherwise be completely lost.
