wanted: nibble-sized coding task

hi,

i have a bit of time in my schedule these days that i'd like to spend
exercising my C skills (which need some exercise; my day job is all Java)
-- preferably on a real project.

so i'm looking for a coding task that is:

- simple
- not urgent
- not being worked on by anyone else

i know, "look at the bite-sized task list". okay, does #785 fit the
bill? other suggestions from those who know the code and project needs
better?
