BTW, the repositories seem to be forward-compatible - that is, 4.1
can read 4.0 repositories without any user changes.

Nevertheless, I think we're seeing enough traffic that I'll try to
take the time to conditionally code up this patch so it can use both
APIs. But, it's going to be downright ugly. -- justin
